Welcome to ATTI //

Welcome to the Association of Tutors in Tertiary Institutions (ATTI). As our name suggests we are a union of teaching and other academic staff at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT). ATTI was born, as an incorporated society, on 29 July 1994. Previously, academic staff at CPIT belonged to a national union of tertiary teachers.

ATTI’s founders, mostly Electrotechnology tutors, felt that local interests would be served better a body formed solely for that purpose. They also believed that such a body would allow them to present their views, suggestions and recommendations to CPIT’s senior managers more accurately and directly than would a national body. The late Peter Kell, a former Electrotechnology tutor and ‘father’ of ATTI, formed a project team to set up an alternative union. Their aim was to set up an organisation founded on the principle of collaboration and focused primarily on promoting the best interests of CPIT and its teaching staff.

The results of our efforts are reflected in our CEA. This has a number of differences when compared to the alternative. These include different leave, higher salaries, Academic Study Leave (ASL) and a number of other benefits.

We now have an offer that we believe is acceptable to most members. We will have a ratification meeting next week. Currently we are trying to determine a place and time where we can meet to ratify the offer. See the offer under the Member Content section.
